Sacked.

September 30, 2008 · 5 Comments

Canned. Fired. Dunzo. Later-dude. Pink-slipped.

I am officially unemployed, and so far it blows. I was fired for no good reason, in my personal opinion, because of a miscommunication. So, with this unplanned vacation before me, what will I do? I’m going to work on some long-neglected projects, start preparing inventory for my shop, and get over the fact that I was sacked because of a scarf. A scarf!

What really burns is that I had ordered a gift for my boss to celebrate the one year anniversary of the store, along with a bunch of pearls and beads for stitch markers and other gift items to be sold.  Needless to say, I won’t be at that party.

Tuesdays are for douchebags, where’s Wednesday when you need it?

FO Parade

Apparently the solution to knitting malaise is to finish projects that are taking up valuable needle-space. Since my previous post, I have finished the ugly sweater you won’t see until it is reborn as a felted bag, a pair of Firestarter socks, a hat (no photo) and one of two Prickly fingerless mitts.

Pattern: Firestarter Socks (rav link) by Yarnissima

Yarn: HazelKnits Artisan Sock in the wonderfully happy “High OcTANG” colorway.

Needles: Addi 47″ turbos in size 0.

These were a simple knit, though at times I found the pattern a little difficult to read. I love the way they’ve turned out, especially because the pattern is perfect for this bright and intrusive orange yarn. I will be giving them to my sister for her 16th (omg I feel old??) birthday. If she doesn’t like them I’ll seek out my revenge in the form of internet-defamation a la 4chan.

Pattern: Prickly by Mel Goodale

Yarn: Louet Gems Fingering weight in orange, and Baywood Pearly Twist in the ever-so-popular “Sea Otter” colorway.

Needles: Knitpicks DPN’s in size 3. I’m definitely going to get a set of these needles in a month or two. Hello bandwagon, I hath found thee.

This pattern is very well written, clear, and there were no “WTF OMG R U SRS?!” moments while knitting these up. The orange and turquoise combination makes me happy, and I am still plugging along on the second mitt. I am ~1/2 through mitt #2, and I will probably finish it at the end of next week at work.

My reward for finishing something was to cast on for a new project. I’m going to be slowly working on Jared Flood’sDruid Mittens” from the latest issue of Vogue Knitting in Classic Elite Alpaca Sox.

So!

What do you do when you’re bored with knitting, temporarily?

I finished the sweater from hell, and I will never wear it. I look like a fierce hippo, a la Amanda Lepore. I want to knit something fantastic and for meeeeeeee. I am thinking pasties (har) or another slightly less bustular sweater (de harr.)

I think I’m SOL.

Lust!

September 9, 2008 · 1 Comment

I’m not sure when the promiscuity went into warp 10 – especially because I’ve always been a one-at-a-time kind of girl – but my god, when the libido demands results, it gets results.

I have more than one project on my slutty little needles right now, and it’s starting to have ill effects. Sometimes I forget their names, and call them by another lover’s. Sometimes I forget to give them attention, because I’m too busy indulging and tending to whomever happens to be more fussy. Sometimes I try to break up with them, but they beg and cry and I just don’t know how to deal with that. Especially if the seknitting is good.

First, before all others, came the red-sweater-that-isn’t-my-color-but-i-knit-it-anyway. This was an insanely fast project, taking three to four days of knitting to ‘complete’. By complete I mean: I got half way through the second sleeve and got bored. RSTIMYBIKIA (rav link) is currently living somewhere that forces me to pay attention, forces me to knit a little whenever the mood strikes. On top of my fridge. Sadly, with all of the fridgetertainment (Create a commie!) this sweater gets little to no play. I take it down when MC++ and I watch House, but other than that the beast is destined to serenade the dust bunnies and contemplate Mao’s manifesto.

There is Irtfa’a. I still love Irtie, and I still work one or two rows a week… but I’m lazy and by the time I get home from work (having knit all day) I just don’t want to think about fiddly bits. This is a black-yarn project, and I have three cats with white bellies… and a fourth with fur four to five inches long. Bleh. I have to work on this away from them, and I can’t get ~AWAY~

There are those crazy leaf socks, which are currently on time out and aren’t allowed to talk to anyone. Rumor has it they hid one of my needles. Bastards.

Ugh, and there’s this ridiculously boring convertible thing I’m knitting for work. I made it a personal policy MONTHS ago to never do work-knitting at home, because I wasn’t getting any of my own knitting done. I just finished a baby sweater for the store, so now this thing will be living at work with me until it screams “finish me!”

I wish there were birth control for knitting. It would work 99% of the time, and there are always scissors around for that pesky 1% that just won’t give up.
