Canned. Fired. Dunzo. Later-dude. Pink-slipped.
I am officially unemployed, and so far it blows. I was fired for no good reason, in my personal opinion, because of a miscommunication. So, with this unplanned vacation before me, what will I do? I’m going to work on some long-neglected projects, start preparing inventory for my shop, and get over the fact that I was sacked because of a scarf. A scarf!
What really burns is that I had ordered a gift for my boss to celebrate the one year anniversary of the store, along with a bunch of pearls and beads for stitch markers and other gift items to be sold. Needless to say, I won’t be at that party.
Tuesdays are for douchebags, where’s Wednesday when you need it?

Apparently the solution to knitting malaise is to finish projects that are taking up valuable needle-space. Since my previous post, I have finished the ugly sweater you won’t see until it is reborn as a felted bag, a pair of Firestarter socks, a hat (no photo) and one of two Prickly fingerless mitts.

Pattern: Firestarter Socks (rav link) by Yarnissima
Yarn: HazelKnits Artisan Sock in the wonderfully happy “High OcTANG” colorway.
Needles: Addi 47″ turbos in size 0.
These were a simple knit, though at times I found the pattern a little difficult to read. I love the way they’ve turned out, especially because the pattern is perfect for this bright and intrusive orange yarn. I will be giving them to my sister for her 16th (omg I feel old??) birthday. If she doesn’t like them I’ll seek out my revenge in the form of internet-defamation a la 4chan.

Pattern: Prickly by Mel Goodale
Yarn: Louet Gems Fingering weight in orange, and Baywood Pearly Twist in the ever-so-popular “Sea Otter” colorway.
Needles: Knitpicks DPN’s in size 3. I’m definitely going to get a set of these needles in a month or two. Hello bandwagon, I hath found thee.

This pattern is very well written, clear, and there were no “WTF OMG R U SRS?!” moments while knitting these up. The orange and turquoise combination makes me happy, and I am still plugging along on the second mitt. I am ~1/2 through mitt #2, and I will probably finish it at the end of next week at work.
My reward for finishing something was to cast on for a new project. I’m going to be slowly working on Jared Flood’s “Druid Mittens” from the latest issue of Vogue Knitting in Classic Elite Alpaca Sox.
