Would you look at that? Actually knitting something that isn’t a sample, a sock, or ridiculous. I’ve made up a little pattern for a cowl-necked pullover – knitting in tandem with the fantastic Feministy – each of our sweaters are different, but the idea is similar. It’s great to bounce ideas and techniques off of another knitter with similar goals.
The sweater is being knit with Madeline Tosh Worsted in the Brother’s Grimm colorway, a deep, brooding black with splashes of forest green throughout. To avoid any ugly pooling I’m rotating between three skeins of yarn, adding a new skein in halfway through the skein before it. Willy nilly, natch.
With any luck the sweater will be finished by the end of next week. I’m completely obsessed with it, it’s all I want to do. This feeling has been something I’ve missed over the last year, the will to knit is finally returning now that I care about what I’m producing.

In addition to really, actually, legitimately knitting something for myself, I’ve started to read for pleasure again. I long for this during the semester; I read so much for ‘business’ that the thought of reading something quick, easy and pointless seems like a chore in itself. So, to deal with this I’ve given myself over to the Sookie Stackhouse phenomenon. Charlaine Harris, I rue the day.
I’m almost done with the first book of the brain-candy-obsessive-want-to-stay-up-all-night-reading series, Dead Until Dark. Thoughts so far? The voice of the heroine, Sookie, annoys the piss out of me; Bill is very dull, almost in a sexy way but it borders on “gross, this is like reading about a sexy relative,” somehow. Beyond those minor complaints the simple narrative is easy on my mind, and I can’t put the books down. I don’t know why. I wish I knew, but I don’t. I’m perfectly happy to continue reading these, though I do wish I had a kindle.

This blog take lots of nice pic and content to make beautiful blog.
Thank you!
The greens in your sweater are just so rich — wonderful yarn choice! It looks like it will be cozy!
Beth J.
Thank you! The yarn is really soft, I can’t wait to wear it.
I’ve read all the books – I just do not like Sookie. I don’t know why I read them all, but they were enjoyable. I do like Bill, but also Eric.
Yay!!! Knitting content! I love the colorway of that Madeline Tosh.
I’ve read about 6 of those books, and they are great, noncommittal, lounging in a bubble bath sort of reading.
I love the color of that yarn- it’s stunning!
I haven’t read the books but hubby and I watch the show. We’re not huge fans of the acting/writing (except Anna Paquin is OK) but we keep watching. We just like to watch shows without commericials I guess.
Now that I’ve picked up knitting again, I can’t wait to start cranking out things for myself, and I’ll hopefully have the guts to make a sweater.
And I’m also finally picking up Brainless Reading again, and DUD was the second one I grabbed (Knit One, Kill Two was the first -_-;;). I’m not too fond of its very cliche start, but once I hit Bubba, I couldn’t stop laughing! I’m really hoping the next books will pick up pace. The boss (Sam?) is another character that I’m anxious to see explored.
akc akc!
you are super fabulous, can’t wait to see what the sweater looks like!
Ha! Another one bites the dust. I started by watching the show and not being able to deal with suspense, went out and got all the books. Simple pleasures.
I’m reading those too; I’m on the 4th one I think. The show goes along pretty well with the books (with more boobs).
I’m watching the show via Netflix.
Can’t wait to see the sweater! I love the colorway you’re using.
I haven’t read those books yet, but we watched the first season of True Blood and I know what you mean. I seriously hate Sookie. She bugs the crap out of me. But the idea is cool so we keep watching….
